Where do your valuable TASSA donations go?
TASSA has established three tiers of funding:
1) Functionality - Awareness - Credibility
Aim: to turn TASSA into a viable recognised charity with a good membership and profile so as to gain government recognition. To have an effective selection of media interfaces including flyers, cards, TV ads, YouTube modules, print ads, patrons, comprehensive websites with online donations and attractive newsletters.
a) Keeping TASSA running... for 10 years Bev has been running TASSA almost single-handedly and helping other people just like herself while she struggles with her own battle with Sjögren's. Your donations help support with her running costs including telephone, internet, electricity, paper, photocopies, postage, equipment and petrol.
b) Creating awareness... Bev has done a great job struggling to make all the information available as well as counseling sufferers. Now TASSA and Sjögren's need to have their profile raised so that everyone knows about it, from Governments to Doctors and those who suffer from Sjögren's but who still can't find a correct diagnosis or help in living with this debilitating disease. Also to support and educate those who care for Sjögren's sufferers.
c) Gaining credibility.. Sjögren's is completely unsupported by the Government in terms of recognition from the departments that support other debilitating diseases like cancer, heart disease, MS, and diabetes. TASSA needs to educate doctors, take out ads in medical journals and provide literature to a variety of medical groups. The best way to get the attention of Governments is with Membership and this is why TASSA is instigating a new Associate Membership for the inimical tax deductible amount of just $2. You can become an Associate Member on our Join page.
Once established and fully functioning with a great public profile TASSA can move forward...
2) Research - Funding - Sponsorship
Aim: to engage research groups who will work consistently to find the cause and ideally a cure for Sjögren's but also research into ways of improving the quality of life of sufferers.
a) Identify and prioritise... with Bev's help plus feedback from members TASSA will identify all the areas requiring attention to prioritise and test treatments.
b) Research and development... establish relationships with research groups and laboratories like Westmead Hospital and liaise with them in developing treatments and way to improve the quality of life of sufferers.
c) Media and sponsorship... as the credibility of TASSA grows and research begins then serious funding and support will be required. This can be achieved by extending the profile raising to include media appearances, broad based sponsorship and finding celebrity representatives to help promote the Sjögren's cause.
3) Workshops - Centres - Residencies
Aim: To provide face-to-face assistance and education for Sjögren's sufferers to get help and education in living with the disease
a) Local and interstate workshops... Bev will hold regular weekend workshops locally in Byron Shire where people can come to attend. When established and as funding allows Bev will travel to capital cities to hold workshops.
b) As interest develops and people are found to support TASSA, Bev will establish a permanent centre in capital cities or where there is sufficient interest. These centres will be set up in rented houses or as part of an existing healing centre.
c) Live-in Residencies...
eventually when the money allows, the support is available and the profile is sufficiently raised then TASSA can offer live-in opportunities for a weekend or a week whereby patients can experience a focused support environment that can address all their questions and confront all situations facing a Sjögren's sufferer including supplements, equipment, exercise, routines, food preparation an dealing with doctors.
Behind all this effort, working with Bev and saving her thousands of dollars a year, is Multimedia Artist Japetus who facilitates all her creative multimedia needs but there is still so much more that just requires donations of money to cover real costs.
